Possessive boyfriend Harries murdered Miss Evemy believing she had kissed another man, a court heard.

He then carried out attack in Katrina’s home, leaving her one-year-old child covered in her mother’s blood.

Katrina spent six days on a life support machine but died in hospital.

A victim impact statement from Katrina’s mum, Amanda, revealed she could not recognise her daughter in hospital because of her horrendous injuries.

Swansea Crown court heard Harries claimed he had found his partner wounded at her home on April 13 with devastating injuries to her neck, eyes, stomach and back.

But he was snared by DNA and marks from his braces that he left after biting his victim.

Prosecutor Patrick Harrington QC said: ‘Harries arrived at the home of his some time girlfriend Katrina, he went into the house and inflicted appalling injuries upon her by stabbing her repeatedly.

‘The attack was done in the presence of the victim’s young daughter who herself became covered in her mother’s blood.

‘Not only did he inflict appalling knife wounds, he also bit Miss Evemy on the arm.’

PC Katy Davies was the first officer to arrive at Katrina Evemy’s home after the stabbing – and said there was ‘blood everywhere’.

Mr Harrington said: ‘She described it like the scene of a blood bath.’

The prosecutor added: ‘Miss Evemy had been in a relationship with Harries for some time but it was very much an on-off relationship.

‘Harries is by nature possessive and jealous.’

The court heard Harries had previously taken Katrina’s phone and started texted a Robert Morton, who he was jealous of, pretending to be her.

After Harries told Mr Morton who he was, Mr Morton replied ‘This problem is between you and her’.’

Harries, of Llanelli, denied murder but was convicted by a jury at Swansea Crown Court.

Sentencing Harries to life with a minimum of 27 years, Lady Justice Whipple described him as ‘a murderer and a liar’ who carried out a ‘cruel and merciless’ attack.

Dean Quick from the CPS, said: ‘Dylan Harries was responsible for a horrendous attack on Miss Evemy that left her with catastrophic injuries.

‘The jury convicted him after considering a combination of evidence, including expert and CCTV evidence.

‘The reviewing lawyer and I wish to thank all witnesses that came forward and Dyfed Powys Police for their thorough and professional investigative work.’
