South Wales woman ‘shares body with five personalities’

A 25-year-old woman has opened up about her five personalities and how her mind would regularly switch from one character to another without warning.

Jessica Mayer, from South Wales in the UK, was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder – a rare condition where her personalities take control of her body at any time.

And in total, she has five alter egos – five different identities – all living in the same body and four of them are male – Jake, Jamie, Ed and Ollie.

Appearing on Australian program Sunday Night, Jessica revealed how her personality can unpredictably emerge at any time – even when she’s getting intimate with her husband.

Speaking to The Sun in 2013, she revealed her identities – bisexual Jamie, 27, Jamie’s brother Jake, age 20, 25-year-old anorexia Eddie and 14-year-old Ollie.

She noticed her personalities started from the tender age of six.

A young Jessica started playing football with a group of boys in school when she insisted they call her Jake – who spoke in an American accent.

‘At the time they thought I was playing make-believe and I was a tomboy – nothing out of the ordinary for a child of my age,’ she told the publication.

Jessica initially assumed she was living a normal life with different identities ‘living’ inside her head until her best friend confronted her when she was 13.

‘She said, “What you do isn’t normal”. Her words hit me like a ton of bricks. Until then I’d believed everybody was like me. My behaviour had become officially weird,’ Jessica said.

When she scoured through her wardrobe, she made a shocking revelation after finding boys clothing crammed in her shelves.

‘Suddenly my life didn’t feel like my own. I made an effort to fit in with the girls. I wore make-up and tight-fitting clothes,’ she recalled.

And her personalities started to clash, with either Jake and Jamie removing all her make-up when they took over her body – leaving her reapplying it back on.

‘It was a constant battle. I was scared. I thought I was going mad and I was too scared to tell anyone,’ she said.

Jessica has met with Australian presenter Melissa Doyle to speak about her battle with the condition – and how she was able to take back control of her life.

The interview will go to air on Channel Seven’s Sunday Night on Sunday 8pm.
