Spain vs Sweden: BBC make blunder as England stars are listed as playing for BOTH teams in line-up for Women’s World Cup semi-final

The BBC showed Lionesses players in the line-ups for Spain and Sweden in the build-up to today’s semi-final clash in one of the worst blunders seen at the tournament.

As Spain and Sweden warmed up, the graphics appeared to show their starting line-ups, but instead of using the correct photos for each player, the BBC instead deployed images of England’s players.

It is the latest gaffe after the BBC were forced to apologise for a reporter asking Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak inappropriate questions and audio issues meant commentator Jonathan Pearce was heard mumbling during the French national anthem.

No immediate apology was offered for the graphics mistake during the build-up to the game.

The line-ups showed immediately before kick-off, around 20 minutes later, featured no photographs of players.

Going off the Sweden line-up, the photograph showed Mary Earps, while the backlines featured Lucy Bronze, Millie Bright, Alex Greenwood, and Jess Carter from right-back to left-back.

A central midfield pairing was composed of Georgia Stanway and Kiera Walsh.

On the wings and in attacking midfield, there was Lauren James, Chloe Kelly, and Rachel Daly, while up top there was Lauren Hemp.

MailOnline has contacted the BBC for comment.
