The wife of Spain’s King Felipe sported a sleek navy and white ensemble to greet her the former monarch, who is awake and in good spirits at the Quirónsalud Madrid University Hospital.

Palace officials said that the operation was arranged following a check-up in June and indicated that it was not an urgent procedure.

Keeping cool in the basking Spanish heat, the Queen who’s continued to reign high in the style stakes, complemented the look with a white blazer, navy loafers and a leather handbag, also designed by Carolina Herrera.

The royal couple appeared in good spirits despite the sombre occasion as they chatted to press outside the hospital.

Wearing her brunette hair loose, the Queen’s soft waves swept her shoulders and were tucked behind her ear to show a flash of her stud earrings.

Revered by many Spaniards, Juan Carlos was considered a key figure in Spain’s transition from dictatorship to democracy following the 1975 death of General Francisco Franco.

However, his reign was tarnished in later years by accusations that he was out of touch with ordinary Spaniards, especially during the 2008 to 2014 financial crisis.
