Spartak doctor Victoria Gameeva bans sex before Liverpool

  • Spartak Moscow will likely need to beat Liverpool to stay in Champions League
  • Club doctor Victoria Gameeva banned players from having sex before the game
  • She told local Russian media ‘sex stimulates the ability to work only in women’

Spartak Moscow are heading to Anfield looking to end Liverpool’s Champions League return in the group stages – and club doctor Victoria Gameeva has a trick up her sleeve to help the players silence the Kop.

She has banned the Spartak players from having sex in the days leading up to the match against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

‘From a medical point of view sex stimulates the ability to work only in women,’ she is quoted as saying in an interview with Russian TV.

‘In martial arts it happens that a female athlete could fight just five or ten minutes after having sex and her results would be better.

‘But it works other way round for men. They should avoid sex two or three days before the football game.’

And Gameeva may well have extra motivation to encourage Spartak to get one over on Liverpool, having previously posed in a Chelsea shirt on her Instagram account.

Liverpool are top of Group E with nine points from five games but are still to confirm their place in the knock-out stages.

A draw will take Liverpool through but a win will confirm their place at the top of the group and in turn heightening their chances of a more favourable last-16 draw.

For Spartak and Gameeva to progress, they need to win and negate Liverpool’s seven-goal superior goal difference or hope Sevilla drop points against bottom club Maribor.
