Mr Shaw, who has been chasing storms since the age of 11, told Daily Mail Australia the standout event was amazing, but not the best he has seen.

‘As storms moved across Sydney and out to sea hundreds if not thousands of cloud-to-ground lightning strikes came down over the sea, lighting up the Sydney sky.’

He said the weather was ideal for the impressive showcase.

‘Forecast conditions were perfect for the show to occur as the storm slowly moved north east.’
