Speeding truck runs red light and kills woman before driver jumps into another car

Texas police release video of disturbing hit-and-run that left a 46-year-old nurse fatally injured as investigators search for 27-year-old driver who jumped into another vehicle before fleeing the scene

  • The Garland Police Department responded to the scene of a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Jupiter Road and Forest Lane on November 14
  • Crash occurred around 11.45pm and found 46-year-old Joyce Cawis of Rowlett unconscious in her vehicle
  • She was rushed to a hospital but died once there 
  • Investigators identified the suspect involved in the crash as 27-year-old Edgar Alfonso Ugalde
  • An arrest warrant has been made for the Garland resident, as he failed to stop and render aid to the nurse

Police have released video of the shocking moment a 27-year-old man allegedly rammed his large pickup truck into a woman’s vehicle before fleeing the scene, killing the other driver. 

The Garland Police Department responded to the scene of a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Jupiter Road and Forest Lane on November 14 at approximately 11.45pm. 

There they found a woman – later identified as 46-year-old Joyce Cawis of Rowlett – unconscious in her Toyota 4Runner. Cawis was rushed to a local hospital where she later died.

Footage shows the moment that a black, four-door Ram Big Horn pickup truck collides with Cawis’ vehicle.  

It speeds through the light before hitting the smaller vehicle and sending it flying off. 

The clip ends with the cars rolling in the aftermath of the collision. 

Witnesses told the police that they saw the driver exit his pickup truck before getting into a small black car and fleeing the scene without rendering aid.

Investigators identified the suspect involved in the crash as 27-year-old Edgar Alfonso Ugalde.

An arrest warrant has been made for the Garland resident, as he failed to stop and render aid to the nurse.  

Many on social media remembered the nurse as being a kind soul and demanded justice for her death.
