Sports Personality of the Year 2018: Rebecca Adlington and Lauren Steadman lead the glamour

She recently confirmed her new romance with boyfriend Andrew Parsons.

And Rebecca Adlington, 29, was clearly in high spirits as she attended the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year at The Vox Conference Centre in Birmingham on Sunday. 

Other stars who walked the red carpet included Strictly Come Dancing star and Paralympian Lauren Steadman, 25, Paloma Faith, 37, and Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, 32. 

Rebecca was radiant in a red blazer and a matching shirt with a plunging neckline. She added to the look with a pair of red, flared pants and strappy heels.

The Olympic swimmer accessorised with dangling golden earrings with a moon and star design and a matching clutch bag for the event.

Rebecca recently confirmed her romance with property manager Andrew Parsons, 28, marking her first relationship since her divorce from her ex, Harry Needs, 26, in 2016.

The sportswoman spoke to OK! Magazine while at OBLU Select at Sangeli in the Maldives, discussing her new man and remaining on good terms with Harry.

The two-time gold medalist revealed that she and Andrew will be heading off for a bit of winter sun with her daughter Summer, three, in the new year.

She said: ‘I said to Andy: “Hopefully a nine-hour flight with a three year old won’t put you off!” But he’s used to her now and they really get on – it’s cute.’

Fresh off competing on Strictly Come Dancing with professional dance partner AJ Pritchard, Lauren showed off her sense of style on the red carpet.

The Paralympic athlete donned a sheer, black lace top with a floral embellishment and paired it with a high-waisted, flowing black skirt.

Completing the look, the TV star styled her brunette locks in a ponytail and turned heads with a dramatic smokey eye. 

Other sporting heroes who turned out for the bash included retired track and field athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill.

The three-time world champion looked sensational in an off the shoulder midi black dress.

She paired the outfit with a pair of green heels and a white and brown clutch bag, letting her brunette locks hang loose along her shoulders.

Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, 30, was accompanied by his wife and mum-to-be, Paris, 27.

The Manchester native wore a black pin-stripe suit with a black and red shirt. His other half donned a shimmering gold dress with a v-neck line and a wrap detail, with her growing baby bump visible.

Singer Paloma Faith easily stood out at the star-studded bash.

The Lullaby hitmaker, 37, wore an eye-catching black jumpsuit with a detailed, multi-coloured floral pattern and flared sleeves.

Topping off the ensemble with long earrings, she styled her blonde locks into large, dramatic curls.

Love Island stars Josh Denzel, 27, and Kaz Crossley, 23, were in a goofy mood as they arrived at the bash.

The couple posed playfully on the red carpet, with Josh leaning back to show off his other half’s sense of style.

While Josh wore a tux, Kaz looked radiant in a shimmering silver dress with a plunging neckline and a faux-fur wrap.

Jockey and Strictly Come Dancing star Victoria Pendleton, 38, looked stylish in all black.

The former track cyclist wore a black mini-dress with long sleeves and a bejeweled embellishment, completing the look with thigh-high black leather boots and a black clutch bag.

Manager of the England national team Gareth Southgate also walked the red carpet, donning a classic blue suit  for the evening.

The 48-year-old is odds-on at 1-4 with bookmaker Coral to receive an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list following the national team’s run to the semi-final of the World Cup in Russia back in the summer.

Coral’s John Hill said: ‘Gareth Southgate has helped the nation fall back in love with the country’s football team again and after England’s surprising run to the semi-final of the World Cup last summer, the betting suggests he will be handed an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list.’

Cricketer Jimmy Anderson and wife Daniella Lloyd, who married in 2006 after two years of dating, also arrived for the bash.

The couple, who recently welcomed their second child, were in high spirits on the red carpet.

Harry wore a grey pin-striped suit while Kate turned heads in a black dress with a v-neckline and a slit on the leg.

BBC News presenter Sally Nugent, 47, donned a red midi-dress and matching heels for the event. 

Sir Mo Farah, 35, who won the Sports Personality of the Year award in 2017, attended this year’s ceremony with his wife Tania Nell.

The athlete wore a classic black suit while his other half looked stylish in a golden, sheer top with a bejeweled embellishment and a flowing white skirt.

Also in attendance were TOWIE stars James Lock, 31, and Yazmin Oukhellou, 25.

The couple, who recently quit the show mid-series to work on their relationship, looked stylish with James in a tuxedo and Yazmin wearing a sheer, lace dress with a slit on the leg that showed off her bronzed hue.   

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year is the main award of the ceremony, which takes place each December. 

The winner is the sportsperson, judged by a public vote, to have achieved the most that year. 

The recipient must either be British or reside and play a significant amount of their sport in the United Kingdom. 

The winner is selected by a public-vote from a pre-determined shortlist.
