Spring roundup: Munoz fuels big rally as Cards defeat…

Yairo Munoz homered twice during an eight-run seventh inning and Alex Mejia delivered the decisive single in the eighth as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied to record a 10-9 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday at Sarasota, Fla.

Munoz also singled in the Cardinals’ first run in the fourth inning. The 23-year-old Dominican drilled a leadoff blast off left-hander Andrew Faulkner to start the eight-run uprising and capped the splurge with the tying two-run shot off right-hander Steven Klimek.

Manny Machado hit a grand slam in the third inning and Chris Davis hit a three-run homer in the fifth for the Orioles.

John Hicks slugged a three-run homer and Dominic Ficociello hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the top of the ninth as Detroit beat New York at Tampa, Fla. Gary Sanchez drilled a two-run homer for the Yankees.

Arnaldo Berrios hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth, and right-hander Matt Harvey allowed one run in two innings in his spring debut as New York edged Atlanta at Kissimmee, Fla. Danny Santana went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Braves.

White Sox 5, Rangers 4

Jose Abreu slammed a two-run homer and Seby Zavala had the go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning at Chicago defeated Texas at Glendale, Ariz. Drew Robinson went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Rangers.

Cubs 7, Athletics 5

Chris Gimenez produced four RBIs to help Chicago beat Oakland at Mesa, Ariz. Khris Davis, Matt Olson, Anthony Garcia and Greg Deichmann all homered for the Athletics.

Indians 4, Mariners (ss) 2

Melvin Upton Jr. smacked a two-run homer and Brandon Barnes had a run-scoring single as Cleveland defeated Seattle at Goodyear, Ariz. Tuffy Gosewisch homered for the Mariners.

Padres 10, Dodgers 5

Carlos Asuaje lined a tiebreaking three-run triple into the right field corner in the seventh inning and then stole home on the front end of a double steal to lead San Diego past Los Angeles at Peoria, Ariz. Andrew Toles homered and had three RBIs for the Dodgers.

Twins (ss) 4, Astros 2

Ehire Adrianza delivered a two-run double to help Minnesota knock off Houston at West Palm Beach, Fla. Alex Bregman homered and right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. struck out three during two scoreless innings.

Red Sox 4, Pirates 3

Brett Netzer stroked a two-run double in the seventh inning as Boston rallied to defeat Pittsburgh at Fort Myers, Fla. Sean Rodriguez, Starling Marte and Josh Bell had RBI singles for the Pirates.

Rays 3, Twins (ss) 1

Christian Arroyo went 3-for-3 to help Tampa Bay down Minnesota at Fort Myers, Fla. Byron Buxton homered for the Twins.

Marlins 3, Nationals 1

Odrisamer Despaigne struck out four while tossing three perfect innings as Miami beat Washington at Jupiter, Fla. Adrian Sanchez drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh for the Nationals’ run.

Blue Jays 7, Phillies 1

Curtis Granderson slugged a three-run homer to cap a five-run second inning as Toronto defeated Philadelphia at Dunedin, Fla. Scott Kingery homered for the Phillies.

Indians (ss) 15, Angels 3

Todd Hankins hit a grand slam and Nellie Rodriguez had three RBIs as Cleveland used a 23-hit attack to rout Los Angeles at Tempe, Ariz. Chris Carter homered for the Angels.

Royals 3, Reds 2

Humberto Arteaga delivered the game-winning single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as Kansas City edged Cincinnati at Surprise, Ariz. Phillip Ervin was 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Reds.

Rockies 9, Diamondbacks 3

Tom Murphy and Anthony Bemboom hit solo homers to help Colorado roll past Arizona at Scottsdale, Ariz. Rey Fuentes hit a two-run blast for the Diamondbacks.

Giants 10, Brewers 10

Milwaukee’s Kyle Wren dropped a tying two-run single into right field to cap a seven-run ninth inning as the Brewers and San Francisco played to a tie at Phoenix. Jarrett Parker, Mac Williamson and Kyle Jensen homered for the Giants, who led 10-1 after 5 1/2 innings.
