Stag do guests fleeced out of £13k quizzed by police

Friends of a jilted groom are being questioned by police after they were allegedly scammed out of thousands of pounds they had saved for a stag-do in Ibiza.

Chris Mahone, 27, let his fiancée Ms Doran, 29, organise the four-day trip for him and 29 friends ahead of their wedding.

But Ms Doran, from Cleator Moir in Cumbria, allegedly fled with the cash and has since been arrested by police on suspicion of fraud.

When Mr Mahone and his friends arrived at the airport, they found Ms Doran had allegedly charged them £440 each and provided them with fake boarding passes and documents appearing to be from a local travel agency.

It has also been claimed she asked 20 of her own friends to pay £300 each for a hen party in Edinburgh next month.

They are now reportedly being questioned by police, while Ms Doran has been released while the investigation continues.

The couple were believed to be planning a £5,000 wedding in their hometown of Cleator Moor.

Some of the stag-do revellers refused to be denied a holiday and instead flew off to Magaluf.

The men were pictured sunning it up at a hotel at the party hotspot.

Nine of the original group spent £400 each on the spontaneous trip in a bid to ‘make the best out of a bad situation’.

But Mr Mahone himself was not in the mood to join his friends and instead returned home to Cumbria.

One of the revellers on the trip told MailOnline: ‘After we found out about the holiday we went inside the airport, went to the desk and asked if there were any flights to Benidorm or Magaluf.

‘They offered us £150 return so we said ‘f*** it, we’re off to Magaluf’.’

A Cumbria Constabulary spokesperson said: ‘Cumbria Constabulary can confirm that a 29-year-old woman, from Cleator Moor, was arrested yesterday evening (11th September) on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

‘She has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.’
