Stan announces exciting partnership expansion with Lionsgate which will see streaming giant get exclusive blockbuster movies and TV shows

Streaming giant Stan announced on Monday they are expanding their partnership with Lionsgate studios to bring more popular movies and TV shows to subscribers.

The multi-year deal will see the Australian streaming service have first-run access to a wealth of existing and new productions from the American production company.

This will include popular TV shows such as Mad Men, Power and Anger Management and acclaimed films like Wolf Creek and La La Land.

In addition, Stan will hold exclusive streaming rights to several new TV shows including Minx, Son of a Critch and a Spartacus sequel series.

The deal builds on the existing one Stan held with Lionsgate and STARZ network which brought popular theatrically released movies to the service.

Stan’s Chief Executive Officer Martin Kugeler said the deal meant Australian subscribers would have first pick at an enormous range of gripping programs.

‘The agreement with Lionsgate secures a suite of exciting new first-run premium dramas from a global content leader, exclusive to Australian subscribers,’ he said in a statement.

‘The deal is a testament to our longstanding partnership with Lionsgate, and is the latest addition to our existing content agreements with major Hollywood studios.

‘It ensures an even stronger line up of exclusive Hollywood and global content complementing our Australian Originals on Stan. We look forward to expanding our strategic partnership with Lionsgate,’ he added.

It comes after Stan joined forces with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation to launch its new family feature film Wind Catcher.

The film, written by Boyd Quakawoot and directed by Tanith Glynn-Maloney, tells the story of a young Aboriginal boy named Percy Boy growing up in regional Australia.

Stan Chief Content Officer Cailah Scobie said: ‘Stan’s partnership with the Australian Children’s Television Foundation reinforces Stan as a streaming destination for young audiences and families.’

‘We are thrilled to be delivering our first project with the ACTF, and we look forward to working with them and the extraordinary creative team on Wind Catcher, a heart-warming feature film for the whole family and an exciting addition to our Stan Originals slate.’
