Stanley Tucci weighs in on possibility that he’ll return for Devil Wears Prada sequel

Stanley Tucci says he would be ‘happy’ to return to his role as Nigel Kipling in a sequel to the Devil Wears Prada.

‘If it does happen, I can only say that I’ll be happy,’ he said about the reported sequel to the hit 2006 film also starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and his sister-in-law Emily Blunt.

‘I don’t really know. I haven’t [heard] about the plot or anything. I really haven’t,’ he told People.

The sequel’s story will follow Streep’s Miranda Priestley and her career in the present day as traditional magazine publishing is on the decline and she must find her footing in an increasingly digital industry and world.

Word has it that Streep, Blunt, and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted the original 2006 film from the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, are all on board for the sequel, per Variety.

Tucci was asked if reuniting with his fellow cast of the movie would be ‘fun.’

‘I don’t think fun would be the word,’ he admitted, adding: ‘I think we would have one of the best times ever.’

‘I’ve made many movies, I’ve probably made close to 100 movies, and I don’t even know how many television episodes, but that experience was one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had,’ Tucci continued.

‘It was just this perfect combination of people, from [director] David [Frankel] to Meryl to Annie, and Emily, who’s now my sister-in-law,’ he gushed. ‘It’s just great.’

None of the reports have mentioned if Anne Hathaway would return as Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs, or if other supporting cast members would return such as Simon Baker, Adrian Grenier, Gisele Bundchen and Tracie Thoms.

But before any potential sequel gets underway, Tucci has a new book to promote, What I Ate in One Year: (and Related Thoughts).

Tucci spoke with People about how his latest book got started,  saying, ‘I didn’t know what to write.

‘The publishers wanted me to write something, but after I wrote the first book, I was like, “I don’t know what to write,” and my wife, who’s a literary agent, said, “Just write what you eat in one year,” and so I did.’

‘You start writing and stuff just comes out, because every time you write about food, it’s a personal experience and it brings up other personal experiences or it brings up related memories from your childhood, about people who are no longer here anymore or friends who are but you don’t see…’ he explained.

‘And then writing about eating with the kids, cooking for the kids, my older kids, my little kids, I guess it shows the passage of time and love and loss through the prism of food,’ he continued.

What I Ate in One Year hits bookstore shelves on October 15 and is his fourth book.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 doesn’t have release date or a confirmed cast at this point, but the 2006 film that inspired it is available to stream on Prime Video, Hulu and Max.
