Star Wars actor looks unrecognizable as he reunites with co-star 19 years after last film together

Hayden Christensen looked unrecognizable as he made a rare public appearance to support his former Star Wars co-star Ewan McGregor at his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

Christensen looked worlds away from his role of Anakin Skywalker as he supported McGregor, 53, who was being honored with a newly-minted star on the iconic boulevard.

The actor, 43, ditched the cloaks for a dapper black suit and white button down.

The duo starred opposite one another in 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and more recently joined forces once again for the 2022 Disney+ mini series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Christensen played Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader while Ewan portrayed his mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

McGregor’s role was previously inhabited by the late Alec Guinness, who played an older version of Obi-Wan in the original trilogy.

At the ceremony, Christensen delivered a speech praising McGregor as he recalled the first time he met him for Attack of the Clones.

‘I often think about the first time that I met you. We were both in Australia, many moons ago, getting ready to do Star Wars episode 2,’ he said.

‘I walk into this room where I’m told Ewan is going to be, and before I can even put eyes on him, I hear his voice. And he exclaims my name with more enthusiasm than I think I’d ever heard it spoken with before,’ Hayden continued.

‘I turn and I see him, and then he’s coming at me, and he just gives me the biggest hug. Like, just the most disarmingly warm embrace.’

Christensen sensed he was not merely meeting a colleague – but a new friend.

‘We start chatting and he’s just the nicest person. He’s telling me how excited he is getting to work together and how much fun we’re going to have doing our light saber training. He’s just beyond kind to me. It was immediately apparent to me that I was meeting someone truly special. And not just as an actor, but as a person. I was meeting a friend.

‘A friend who would later go on to chop off both my legs and leave me for dead on the side of a volcano but I guess I kind of had that coming,’ he joked.

‘But I want just talk for a moment about Ewan’s work on star wars and his iconic work as Obi-Wan Kenobi. It really is just a master class at great acting. And to watch him embody this character, it’s like watching magic. And the best kind of magic — not the kind that involves any like trickery or sleight of hand, but the kind that really makes you believe in something bigger.

He also praised his co-star as not only playing Obi-Wan but being the character.

‘Because he wasn’t just playing Obi-Wan, he was Obi-Wan. I mean, he is Obi Wan. And I really hope we get more Obi-Wan, because this man is just Star Wars gold,’ he said.

‘He so perfectly brought all of the sort of qualities that we knew about the characters while imbuing the role with his own depth and emotion and thus creating something that was bigger than the sum of it’s parts. And it was just a remarkable feat and I was in awe the entire time.’

‘So, my friend Ewan, I want to thank you for being the best Jedi Master that anyone could have ever hoped for. You always had my back and I thank you for that. I’m just so happy to get to be here with you right now. It’s been an honor and a thrill to get to work with you, and swing a lightsaber with you, and more than all of it, call you my friend. I love you, brother.’

‘I love you too,’ Ewan responded as they pulled each other in for an embrace.

On top of their work on screen, the duo have also lent their voices to various Star Wars projects including the 2019 film, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

McGregor also reprised his role over voice over in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

More recently Christensen reprised his role of Anakin in the Disney+ Star Wars series Ahsoka.
