Star Wars actor Riz Ahmed has accused US authorities of ‘racial profiling’ for banning him from a flight on suspicion that he was a terrorist.

The London-born actor, who played Bodhi Rook in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, was on his way to Chicago when he was stopped for questioning at an unnamed US airport.

The actor blamed ‘racial profiling’ for US Homeland Security officials preventing him from boarding his flight, forcing him to miss a Star Wars Celebration convention.

‘It’s scary to be a Muslim right now, super-scary,’ he said, speaking for the first time about the incident in April.

He added that he is frequently stopped and searched at airports.

‘I’ve often wondered, “Is this going to be the year when they round us up, if this is going to be the year they put Trump’s Muslim registry into action?” ’

Calling on Hollywood to be more careful about how Muslims are presented on screen, Ahmed said: ‘I think lives are quite literally at stake here.

The representation of Muslims on screen – that feeds the policies that get enacted, the people that get killed, the countries that get invaded.’

US Homeland Security declined to comment without knowing the exact date of the alleged incident.
