The internet has been sent into a frenzy amid widespread speculation that Starbucks is set to charge customers extra for requesting drinks with ‘no water, no ice, or light ice.’

The rumors specifically relate to the company’s Refresher beverages which will reportedly fall victim to the up charging in all locations across the US from May 9.

It has caused a furor on social media with customers outraged at the thought of increasing costs.

Starbucks declined to comment on the rumored changes when contacted by FEMAIL.

TikTok user Rayah, who has more than 140,000 followers on the video sharing platform, was among the first to claim that the price hike was coming.

In her clip, which has so far been viewed more than 1.3 million times, the Starbucks aficionado speaks to camera and says: ‘You guys, Starbucks is giving us another price increase just in time for summer. 

‘This increase goes in effect for the summer launch starting on May 9. This will effect all of you who drink Refreshers.

‘With this change, if you say no water, you’ll get charged an extra dollar for them adding more base.

‘Additionally, if you say no ice or light ice, you also will get charged this dollar because they have to add more base to make up for the space loss.’

The content creator said that it was unclear whether the same rules would apply to coffee and tea. 

And the claims did not go down well with customers who flooded the comments to express their frustration.

Another joked: ‘So can they take a $1 off since I always ask for extra ice? Same logic, they are using less base now.’

And a third simply said: ‘I refuse to go to Starbucks anymore.’

Rayah’s statements were seemingly backed up by a now viral Reddit post, uploaded by Kevin7309, which received thousands of interactions.

He shared a photograph of a sign that appeared to be displayed in a Starbucks store which read: ‘Important news, please read.

‘Starting on May 9, Starbucks will begin to up charge for no water, no ice, and light ice in Starbucks Refresher beverages at all of their locations.’

It concluded: ‘Thank you for reading!’

As rumors continue to swirl, baristas have been taken to social media themselves to share their own concerns.

Many have argued that they will be the ones in the firing lines of angry customers if the changes are implemented.

TikTok user Niccole, who works at a Starbucks in Travis County, Texas, was among those to share voice their thoughts.

In her video, which has so far been viewed more than 546,000 times, she wrote: ‘How imma be crying once Starbucks starts charging for no ice in drinks and customers are gonna bully tf out of me.’ 

Starbucks declined to comment when approached by FEMAIL.
