Stars to wear white roses at Grammys to support #TimesUp

The #TimesUp campaign will be coming to the Grammy Awards in New York City on Sunday with participants wearing white roses to show solidarity.

Halsey, Kelly Clarkson, Cyndi Lauper and Rita Ora were among the artists committed to participate, according to an article on Wednesday by The Hollywood Reporter.

The planned demonstration was organized by Roc Nation senior vice president Meg Harkins and Karen Rait, music promotion and marketing at Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records.

Harkins and Rait after realizing the awards event celebrating musical achievement had nothing in place to show support for the campaign against sexual harassment assembled a group of about a dozen women on Monday at a Mexican restaurant in New York City.

The group dubbed Voices In Entertainment picked the white rose since it’s a practical accessory with symbolic color.

Suffragettes wore white while protesting for the right to vote and Hillary Clinton more recently wore white to the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump, Harkins said.

Rapsody, Dua Lipa, Tom Morello and more also have committed to the effort.

The Time’s Up movement was launched on January 1 by mostly female Hollywood celebrities in response to the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal that rocked Hollywood.

The campaign against sexual harassment established a $13 million legal defense fund to help lower-income women seeking justice for sexual harassment and assault in the workplace.

The Time’s Up movement also called for women on the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this month to wear black and speak out about sexual harassment and assault.

Harkins and Rait said they were inspired by the Time’s Up movement and Golden Globes demonstration.

They contacted the #TimesUp movement to coordinate their messaging.

‘It’s very important that we stay on their message. The amount of work they have been able to do in just three short weeks is inspiring,’ Rait said.

The white roses demonstration aimed to raise sexual harassment awareness at the Madison Square Garden awards venue and also for the millions watching at home.

‘We have not had the tsunami that politics and Hollywood has had, but we are still women,’ Harkins told The Associated Press on Wednesday night.

“I would want to see men and women wearing white roses and I would like men and women to be able to have meaningful Grammy award speeches when those speeches happen,’ she added.
