State police: 4 officers hurt in shooting in South…

  • A York, South Carolina police officer and three York County Sheriff’s deputies were shot early Tuesday morning searching for a domestic violence suspect
  • Police were called to an address on Farrier Lane around 10pm Monday night, for a report of a man assaulting a female
  • When they got to the scene, suspect Christian Thomas McCall, 47, had fled
  • They then started searching the area around the home for McCall 
  • Around 1am Tuesday, a York police officer was shot
  • Two hours later, three York County Sheriff’s deputies were shot as well
  • McCall was subsequently taken into custody with gunshot wounds of his own
  • Local authorities have not released the conditions of the suspects or the four officers shot 

Four law enforcement officers were shot and wounded while responding to a domestic call in South Carolina overnight. 

Police were called to a home on Farrier Lane around 10:10pm Monday night, for a report of a domestic violence incident. 

Suspect Christian Thomas McCall, 47, was reportedly assaulting a female, but by the time officers arrived on the scene, he had fled on foot.

Several law enforcement agencies then banded together to search for McCall.

At 1:07am, shots rang out and a York police officer was found injured. He was driven to the Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill in another officer’s car.

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said as officers searched some woods around 3:30am, three York County Sheriff’s deputies were hit by a barrage of gunfire. He said the suspect also was wounded and was taken to a hospital. 

Two of the deputies were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, while the third was taken by ambulance. 

Sheriff’s spokesman Trent Faris told a news conference that he did not know the officers’ or the suspect’s conditions early Tuesday.

‘We could really use your prayers and we could really use your thoughts right now for those officers,’ Faris said.  

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said by telephone early Tuesday that York County sheriff’s deputies answered the call near York late Monday.

Berry said deputies said the suspect was gone when officers arrived. A York police officer was shot and wounded during the search.
