Stefan Dennis reveals why he was hesitant to reprise his iconic Paul Robinson character in the highly anticipated Neighbours reboot

He played ruthless businessman Paul Robinson for nearly four decades on Neighbours, before the beloved soap was axed last year.

But Stefan Dennis, 64, was reticent about reprising his villainous role in the much-anticipated reboot.

‘People say, ”You must have jumped at it straight away”. But no, actually,’ he told TV Tonight on Tuesday.

Stefan went on to explain he had already settled into semi-retirement, before he was approached by Neighbours’ executive producer Jason Herbison, who gave the star one day to decide whether he wanted to return to the iconic show.

He confirms he took the full 24 hours to make his decision.

‘When he first said it, ‘ I thought yes… but then I thought, do I really want to go back?’

‘Nothing against the show at all. I would never say anything bad against the show, because I think it has a wonderful place in the world of media.

‘But we all know we’re not doing Shakespeare. We’re not even doing anything like Shakespeare. It’s a genre of show that the world has an appetite for.

Elsewhere in the chat, Stefan said fans can look forward to ‘phenomenal’ storylines over the next year.
