The boss of the global car giant that owns Vauxhall quit last night just days after announcing the closure of its Luton factory.
Stellantis, which also owns the Peugeot, Fiat and Jeep brands, said it had accepted the resignation of Carlos Tavares.
The closure of the Luton plant has put around 1,100 jobs at risk.
Stellantis’ senior independent director, Henri de Castries, said: ‘In recent weeks different views have emerged which have resulted in the Board and the CEO coming to today’s decision.’

Europe’s second-largest car maker has been struggling amid a slump in demand for EVs. A process to find a replacement will be concluded within the first half of next year, the board said.
