Steph Claire Smith has admitted to ‘spying on her babysitters’ and even using the microphone on her son’s baby monitor to critique them from afar.

The 28-year-old fitness influencer from Melbourne was compared to Big Brother after revealing she will watch babysitters ‘the whole time’ she is away from her son Hervey.

‘If it is their first time doing it I will watch,’ she said in the most recent episode of the KICPOD podcast.

Speaking to her co-host and friend, Laura Henshaw, Steph said she even spies on her husband, Josh Miller.

Steph once alerted friends she was watching and could hear them talking, after they suggested putting an outfit on the youngster that was ‘too small’.

‘I said hey I am listening to your conversation,’ she said.

Before admitting she apologised to them for the intrusion.

‘Are you Big Brother?,’ Laura laughed.

The clip of the two friends and business partners was posted on Instagram, with the caption asking the show’s followers what they think of Steph’s baby monitor habits.

‘Is Steph Claire Smith normal?’ the post read.

‘Spying is a bad choice of words,’ Steph responded, adding: ‘Laura you are going to be exactly the same.’

‘It’s the talking over the microphone for me,’ Laura responded.

Prompting another comment from Steph.

‘Family and friends know I do not spy. I check in. Mainly because I miss him and I’m envious. No one’s gonna wanna babysit anymore.’

But it appears she isn’t the only person checking in on their friends and family’s babysitting habits.

‘Guilty. I spoke over the camera to let my Dad know that he hadn’t put my son in the cot safely,’ one mum said.

‘I actually have to delete the Cubo app from my phone every time the babysitter comes cause otherwise I do this too and don’t switch off,’ said another.

‘I’m howling. That awkward moment when you thought that was normal “sorry excuse me – the glow dreamer isn’t set to the right volume and she doesn’t use the light”,’ added a third.

And it isn’t just parents.

‘If someone dog sits for me I’m literally watching every minute and yelling over the cameras “cuddle him, he wants love”,’ one woman said.

Some people found the spying uncomfortable.

One nanny said she would have ‘lost it’ if she had found out someone was secretly watching her work all day.

‘As long as they know they are being watched. I’d be really upset if that was me as a professional nanny or even friend,’ she said.

‘Video is fine but listening into other people’s conversations is just wrong,’ one woman said.

Steph Claire Smith has 1.5million followers on Instagram.
