Stephen Curry reveals the hazing ritual he subjected American actor Ben Feldman to while filming Population 11 in the outback: ‘He thought his scalp would be removed’

Veteran Australian actor Stephen Curry has revealed what it was like to work with Hollywood star Ben Feldman on the set of new Stan Original series Population 11.

The Australian comedy-thriller show, which premiered on Thursday, follows American Andy Pruden (Feldman), who travels to a rural town to visit his dad who he hardly knows.

Andy comes across the town’s 11 quirky residents, including Noel Pincus (Curry) a local who dreams of starting his own micro-nation.

The series was filmed in the tiny, isolated town of Derby in Western Australia, and the cast bunked together in the same hotel – meaning they spent plenty of time together when they weren’t filming.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday, Stephen admitted that he subjected Ben, the cast’s only American star, to a hazing ritual during their time in the outback.

‘Yanks are fun to wind up. At one stage we made him believe that his entire scalp would be removed,’ he mused.

‘There’s nothing like an American actor coming with a whole bunch of Aussie bogans like us who basically spent the entire time making him feel like he’s going to die,’ he laughed.

‘He’s a very good sport and he always gave it back as good as he got, so we never felt guilty.’

Stephen only had positive words to say about working with Ben, who shot to fame in popular Hollywood shows Mad Men and Superstore.

‘There’s sort of a sense that very successful people in the States that are in our industry are a bit precious.. And a little bit entitled – or a lot entitled,’ he explained.

‘Ben broke that mould instantly. He is a pro. He’s such a nice dude, he’s such a hard worker,’ he added.

Perry Mooney, an up-and-coming actress who also stars in the series, also spoke to Daily Mail Australia about what she learned working with a seasoned actor like Ben

'[Ben] asked the right questions. He knows exactly what he's doing, and even when he doesn't know what he's doing, he finds a way to figure it out. And it's not always in the way that you think it would happen,' she said

‘It’s very interesting to see someone who’s come through the Hollywood factory – in the best way possible – but come out the other end and be normal and be able to figure things out and not make you feel stupid for asking questions,’ she added.
