Stephen King is trolled after tweeting his own recipe for MICROWAVED salmon

For decades, Stephen King has horrified readers with his tales of an evil killer clown, a haunted hotel, a murderous teenager with telekinesis… and microwaved salmon.

On Tuesday, the 74-year-old bestselling author took to Twitter to suggest a dinner recipe to his followers — but it was not quite as well received as his novels, igniting swift mockery and backlash.

King detailed his preferred way of cooking salmon in the microwave, which he does with oil, lemon juice, and paper towels.

The nuked fish meal has rattled and nauseated commenters, many of whom cracked jokes about King’s unfailing ability to spook readers. 

‘Put some olive oil and lemon juice on it. Wrap it in damp paper towels. Nuke it in the microwave for 3 minutes or so. Eat it,’ he wrote

For some, the Misery author’s recipe sounded good, and several commenters shared their own takes on microwaves salmon.

But for many, King’s cardinal sin of cooking fish in the microwave was as chilling as a rabid dog, a super-pandemic, or a magical dome that traps an entire town.

‘This maybe the shortest horror story you’ve ever written,’ wrote one commenter.

‘Really incredible the kind of horror King can summon with just a few words,’ quipped Jamelle Bouie.

Several called it another horror story, congratulating the author on his terrifying tweet

‘Say what you will, but the man still knows how to horrify,’ another Twitter user chimed in.

‘This is an excellent horror story, well done sir,’ wrote a fourth. 

At least one commenter expressed concern that King was on drugs, while others were quaking at the thought of the potential stench.

‘The smell of microwaved fish is more horrifying than anything you have penned & I say this as an admirer who can barely watch a trailer or see a book jacket with your name on it without getting next level scared,’ wrote one.

One more fan wrote: ‘This would be understandable if you were presently living in a college dorm. However, it would still not be acceptable.’

Another came up with a suggestion they seemed to believe was equally off-putting. 

‘I eat it raw in front of the deli clerk while asking them what they think the last thought that went through the fish’s mind was, before telling them,’ they wrote.

‘Sorry to hear of your recent divorce, Stephen,’ another Twitter user joked.

Even Patricia Arquette chimed in, though she did so to warm about chemicals: ‘2 chemicals found in paper towels are Chlorine & Formaldehyde. Chlorine is used to make the paper towel white . Like thermal (receipt) paper, Paper Towel have been found to contain Bisphenol A (BPA), even paper towel made from recycled paper.’

King, however, responded to critics with humor, tweeting: ‘I have one thing to say to people slagging on my salmon recipe: DON’T KNOCK OT IF YOU HAVEN’T TRIED IT.’

King’s divisive recipe was shared at an interesting time: In October, Ten Speed Press will release ‘Castle Rock Kitchen: Wicked Good Recipes from the World of Stephen King’ by Theresa Carle-Sanders — with a forward by King himself.

The book will contain recipes inspired by King’s books, including Pancakes with the Toziers from It, the Blue Plate Special from 11/22/63, Crab Canapés from Pet Sematary, and  Blueberry Cheesecake Pie  from the short story The Body.
