Steve McGawley has created another saucy lights display

A prankster father-of-four who covered his house in an ‘offensive’ illuminated penis has risked a new run-in with police with another risque Christmas light display.

Steve McGawley, 44, was arrested last year when he covered his home in Blackpool with fairy lights which he hung in the shape of a penis. He also created a bell followed by the word ‘end’.

But he has once again decided to make a statement with his decorations, this time using the lights to spell out ‘Traffic W’ followed by an illuminated anchor.

The handyman says he has created the display in protest to the roadwork-induced traffic queues which he claims form outside his home each evening.

The traffic has been caused by work to create £21m tram track extension in the area.

He said: ‘There are proper tailbacks from about 4pm until 7pm.

‘I think it’s a bit silly how they have put every single roadworks all at the same time, and all those people can’t get home when they have got all their kids to pick up.

‘I know people driving past could see the funny side.’

He added: ‘It was a really good anchor as well – I should have been an artist!’

Last year, Mr McGawley was arrested after refusing to take down the display when asked by police.

He later posted a video of his confrontation with an officer, who told: ‘You can either take it down or you can be charged with a public order offence.’

Mr McGawley denied the lights on his wall depicted a penis and instead said the decorations were ‘festive’.

He later issued an apology to neighbours by changing the lights to say ‘I’m Sorry’.

Earlier this year, to mark Hallowe’en, Mr McGawley put up fairy lights with the words ‘NoT IN’. He also created an offensive hand gesture.
