Steve Price vows to not be a ‘shock jock’ like Alan Jones and Ray Hadley

The Project panellist Steve Price vows he won’t be a ‘shock jock’ like Alan Jones and Ray Hadley as he takes over prime talkback radio time slot

  • Steve Price, 64, will take over 2GB and 4BC’s 12pm to 3pm time slot
  • He said he will not be a ‘shock jock’ like colleagues Alan Jones and Ray Hadley
  • Macquarie Media’s Adam Lang said he feels strongly Price is perfect for the role

Media commentator Steve Price has vowed to adopt a different on-air person  to fellow hosts Alan Jones and Ray Hadley as he takes over the afternoon time slot on 2GB.

The 64-year-old told the Sydney Morning Herald he had become more conservative as he had gotten older but he isn’t as conservative compared to some of his colleagues.

While he respects the pair he said: ‘I wouldn’t have lasted ten years on The Project if I was a right-wing shock jock.’

Price will take over the 12pm-3pm time slot Monday through to Friday on 2GB in Sydney and 4BC in Brisbane – but not in Melbourne – after Chris Smith’s departure announced last week.

He previously hosted the night program for seven years.

Price hopes to attract more female listeners to the show with Rita Panahi to co-host the first hour.

‘Percentage-wise in terms of air time, it would be heavily loaded towards female opinion,’ Price said.

‘We want to make afternoons more contemporary, younger, quicker, faster and a bit more fun. Times have changed and the digital age means everyone has a crowded plate of [media options]. You have to do stuff that is a bit different.’

Macquarie Media’s CEO Adam Lang said he feels very strongly Price is perfect for the role and appeals to many audiences.

‘News doesn’t stop breaking when you break for lunch – and with Steve Price behind the microphone, neither do we. For the last seven years Steve has been presenting our Nights program, and he has achieved that extraordinarily rare feat of being number one simultaneously in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne,’ Mr Lang told Mumbrella.

‘We’ve seen how broad Steve Price’s appeal is – and now with The Steve Price Show to air from 12-3pm, a new audience can enjoy his down-to-earth style, from tradies on a worksite to parents doing the school pickup.

‘We also know how tough it is for so many businesses out there – and Steve has a track record of delivering terrific results for our clients.’

Price said the program will be a combination of breaking news, opinion and talk back.

Price will take over the time slot on July 15.
