Steve Smith cruises towards 200 as Australia grind…

Australia captain Steve Smith was threatening big trouble for England as he eased towards a double-century on day three at the WACA.

Smith (173no) had completed his second hundred of this Ashes series when he clipped James Anderson past midwicket for his 16th four in only the fifth over of another sunny morning.

Then after Shaun Marsh edged Moeen Ali to slip, Smith found another key ally in Mitch Marsh (59no) in an unbroken century stand as Australia moved on to an ominous mid-afternoon 370 for four in reply to 403 all out.

England, meanwhile, have made a complaint to match referee Richie Richardson about the process by which third umpire Aleem Dar decided their opener Mark Stoneman was out caught-behind on day one here.
