The long-time partner of a mother-of-two has been charged with murder after she was found at her home beaten and stabbed.

Steven Dean, 37, was charged with one count of murder on Friday following the death of his partner of 15 years, Emmerick Lasakar.

WA Police rushed to a home on Knutsford Avenue in Kewdale, southeast Perth, after Ms Lasakar’s young daughters called triple zero on Monday.

Officers and St John WA personnel administered first aid to the 35-year-old before she was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she later died.

Dean remains in hospital under police guard after allegedly trying to flee the scene.

He allegedly crashed his grey ute into a tree before entering a nearby home where he was arrested by police.

The 37-year-old has been charged with one count of murder and a number of other offences in relation to other incidents including attempted aggravated armed robbery, aggravated home burglary and commit, and reckless driving.

Neighbours have previously revealed how a young girl’s screams were heard coming inside the house.

A neighbour told 9News she was alerted to the ordeal when she heard screams ring out across the neighbourhood.

‘It was her mother – she was screaming “mamma mamma mamma, no no no, pick me, kill me’,” the neighbour said.

‘Then screaming again, like massive bad awful screaming, that was the worst’.

WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said earlier this week the scene was confronting ‘not only for officers but for the kids’.

‘It is a tragically sad day for the family,’ he told ABC Perth radio.

Dean has been refused bail and is set to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday via a bedside hearing in hospital.
