Steven Gerrard was ridiculed by a rival Saudi Arabian side in brutal fashion after his Al-Ettifaq side were comfortably beaten 2-0 on Saturday night.

The Liverpool legend is under-pressure in the Middle East with his team struggling after suffering a fourth defeat in six games during his second season at the club.

Gerrrard  has been in charge of Al-Ettifaq for 16 months and he is said to be earning £15.2million per year in Dammam, while living over the border in Bahrain.

Al-Ettifaq finished sixth in the 18-team Saudi Pro League last season but are currently ranked 11th after nine rounds of fixtures in the 2024-25 edition.

After the game, Gerrard was booed by a significant section of the home fanbase, who urged him to ‘get out’ and later endured further misery when he was mocked by Al-Qadsiah after their convincing win.

The 44-year-old still rues never winning the Premier League during his glorious years at Liverpool and came closest when he captained the Reds during the 2013/14 season.

However, horror struck when a fateful weekend at Anfield saw Gerrard slip against Chelsea, Demba Ba ran through on goal and the rest as they say is history with Liverpool dropping out of the title race.

Gerrard himself has since revealed how memories of that dreadful day still haunt him and Al-Qadsiah poked fun at the moment when celebrating their latest win over Al-Ettifaq on social media.

Al-Ettifaq finished sixth in the 18-team Saudi Pro League last season but are currently ranked 11th after 10 rounds of fixtures in the 2024-25 edition.

Speaking after a recent defeat, Gerrard said: ‘I spoke to the players. If we had performed like this before, we would not have put ourselves in this embarrassing situation, but I bear the responsibility.
