The 43-year-old star from Taiwan was said to be attending an event last night at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

A trending video from China’s Twitter-like Weibo shows the 5ft 6in actress, wearing a dark blue cocktail dress, cautiously ascending the steps while two staff members held umbrellas for her.

She was said to be wearing a pair of shoes with 10cm (4in) high heels.

A man, who appears to be an emcee of the event, escorted the famous guest as she was about to get onto the stage.

Nevertheless, she lost balance after failing to step down on the stage surface firmly. One of her high-heeled shoes slid and she fell forward face first.

She was quickly helped by the male presenter, who continued to hold her hand and squatted down to check upon on her.
