The MCG’s hollow turf may be in need of a good scrub after umpire Ray Chamberlain was ill during the game between Richmond and GWS on Sunday afternoon.

The 45-year-old, who took charge of the 2010 and 2019 Grand Finals, visibly struggled during the first quarter and vomited onto the field.

Despite looking worse for wear, Chamberlain soldiered through the opening period and eventually recovered enough to see the game out.

Another added: ‘Now he knows how he makes us feel every game he umpires.’

‘Few too many sherbets last night, all good we’ve all been there,’ a fan tweeted, while another quipped: ‘Big night Razor?’

Chamberlain wasn’t alone in struggling as the Tigers and the Giants met for the first time at the MCG since the former triumphed by 89 points in the 2019 Grand Final.
