The armed man, later identified as 30-year-old Shen, barged into the shop in Baodong county on Monday at about 7pm, according to local reports.

He claimed that he received a counterfeit 20-yuan (£2.20) banknote from the owners after purchasing from them earlier, Badong News reported.

The couple refused to give him a new note, prompting the man to brandish the knife and threaten the owners with it.

The pair was filmed remaining perfectly calm while the frustrated robber continues to make his demands.

A woman dressed in white then slowly approaches the cashier, presumably unaware of the ongoing heist.

She then pulled out a 10 yuan (£1) note to pay for her item. The furious man then snatches the cash out of the owner’s hand.
