Storing milk in the fridge door could be putting you at risk, expert warns. Here’s where it should go instead

If you are storing your milk in the fridge door then you could be putting yourself and your family at risk, experts warn.

According to Lynsey Crombie, dubbed the ‘Queen of Clean’ in the UK, milk must be kept on the bottom shelf, alongside the meat.

The 46-year-old appeared on UK TV program This Morning to make the revelation live on air.

She asked the hosts where they kept their milk, to which they answered the ‘doors’.

But Lynsey explained that the door was known to be the warmest part of the fridge.

The popular author and cleaning expert said milk should be put on the bottom shelf, where the temperature is at its lowest.

She went on to explain the top shelf is perfect for deli goods like ham and cheese and the doors should strictly be reserved for ‘open sauces’.

The hosts appeared surprised and the advice left viewers divided – before landing on TikTok where it went viral.

Milk should never be kept in the door – experts say

Some people slammed the idea that milk belongs on the bottom of the fridge.

‘If you put it there it has to go on its side and it leaks. I’ll put my milk where it fits thanks,’ one woman said.

Another added: ‘I am in my 40s, have always kept milk in the door and it has always been cold enough.’

‘It doesn’t make a difference if you have a modern fridge,’ a third person added.

‘Unless you bought your fridge for $20 or it’s 18 years old I don’t think it makes much difference where you put anything,’ agreed another.

Others were completely on board.

‘Buy milk that doesn’t leak, or close it properly. I put mine on the correct shelf and have never had a problem,’ one man said.

‘She is correct, meat goes there too and usually that shelf has a lip – in case those things leak – to prevent contamination,’ added another.

Some people claimed the segment revealed daytime television must have ‘hit an all-time low’.

‘They’re discussing how to stack a fridge. Cant wait for tomorrow when they reorganise sock drawers,’ the man scoffed.

Lynsey’s advice has been echoed by the experts from Australian consumer group CHOICE who claim milk will spoil more quickly if kept in the door.

‘Everyone keeps milk in the door, but this is actually the warmest part of the fridge,’ CHOICE revealed.

Milk is best stored at or below 4C.
