Stranger Things star branded rude for not doing autographs

The Stranger Things cast mates of Finn Wolfhard rushed to his defense after a slighted fan labeled him ‘rude’ online.

The 14-year-old Canadian actor has been doing a lot of travelling and press lately after the second season of the hit show arrived on Netflix just over a week ago,.

On one of his press stops, he was spotted coming and going from his hotel by some fans, who were more than a bit disappointed that Finn didn’t rush over to meet them.

One fan shared a video, which has since been deleted, showing Finn walking into his hotel with a bodyguard alongside him while the people waiting to see him plead with him to take pictures with them and sign pictures.

After he walks into the hotel lobby without personally greeting them, one of the women brands him ‘so rude.’

The video was also shared online with a tweet blasting the teenager, reading: ‘Imagine being 14 and heartless that you can’t even stop for your fans who made you famous in the first place! WOW.’

The video was subsequently widely shared, eventually coming to the attention of Shannon Purser, who played Barb on Stranger Things.

She was incensed by the accusations by the fans, and snapped back at them in a series of tweets.

‘Okay, no. No actor is under any obligation to stop for anyone. Finn is an incredibly kind human. But he’s human and he needs breaks too,’ she wrote.

She also blasted them for daring to ‘make young actors feel guilty or indebted to you because they couldn’t say hi.’

Shannon’s message was liked by several of her and Finn’s fellow Stranger Things stars, with Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, adding a comment of his own.

‘So true. We really love the fans. Finn is the nicest guy you will ever know. We all work so hard, and need a break sometimes,’ he said.

While Finn himself hasn’t commented on the video, he has liked Noah’s defense of him and several other messages of support from fans.

It isn’t the first time Finn has found himself to be in the middle of controversy in the last week.

Model Ali Michael, from Texas, caused an uproar after she shared an image of the Canadian child star in an Instagram story last week with a caption that sent many fans into a rage.

Alongside the image she wrote: ‘Not to be weird but hit me up in 4 years @finnwolfhardofficial’.

With a 13 year age gap between the pair, the model has been criticized for ‘sexualizing’ children, with her message widely panned as ‘disgusting’. She was eventually forced to apologize for what she called ‘a joke.’
