Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse ‘forced to face ex-husband Timo Kulczak in court and could be jailed’ over claims he controlled her during 11-year marriage

Strictly Come Dancing star Motsi Mabuse will reportedly be forced to face ex-husband Timo Kulczak in court over accusations he controlled her during their 11-year marriage.

The TV judge’s attempts to avoid a face-to-face showdown collapsed and now according to The Sun judges have ruled she will be forced to attend the German hearing.

Timo, 46, who divorced the star, 42, in 2014, has asked the court to jail his former spouse for up to six months or fine her £290,000 after denying the accusations she made in her 2022 memoir.

Motsi claimed that during their marriage her then husband, who coaches the national German dance squad, controlled her by restricting access to cash and deciding what she ate, all of which he denies.

Timo said the accusations had affected both his personal and professional life, telling the publication: ‘I wasn’t abusive, I was just being German’.

Before claiming his South-African born ex struggled to adapt to the ‘German way’ and he had to help ‘organise’ her.

Before adding: ‘I just wanted the apology. But at the point where you say all further communication is through legal teams, an apology is not enough any more.’

MailOnline has contacted Motsi’s representatives for comment.

In November it was reported Motsi’s legal team would  argue that her ex-husband was only fighting her claims of coercion because he wants some of her £200,000 Strictly Come Dancing salary.

A source claimed: ‘Motsi’s lawyers hope everything that has been said about her in the media will end up helping them in court.

‘They are so confident, their main worry is he won’t be able to pay their legal bills if he ends up losing.’

The former Ballroom and Latin dancer married her first love when she was just 22 years old and she broke off their 11-year marriage in 2014.

In November, Timo hit back at Motsi’s claims, accusing her of fabricating the story in order to ‘push book sales’, while claiming they have even been in friendly contact since their divorce.

In her 2022 book Finding My Own Rhythm, Motsi claimed her difficult relationship with Timo held her back professionally as he refused to let her open a dance school.

The TV personality said Timo took charge of her finances, paying her an allowance from what she earned from her TV appearances and dance classes.

She claimed Mr Kulczak chose what they ate and refused to split up from her when she spoke to him about it.

Motsi wrote in her book: ‘Timo and I went to Thailand, and I told him, once and for all, that I was leaving. We fought every day, but I refused to back down this time.’

Their relationship fell apart after they stopped dancing together, despite the couple previously winning two German championships together.

Mr Kulczak also declined her requests to have a baby and open a dance school together, according to Motsi.
