Strictly’s Shirley Ballas puts herself on a DRIP after receiving death threats

Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has revealed she’s been put on a vitamin drip after being struck down with illness.

Taking to Instagram, the star, 59, posted several snaps that showed the drip attached to her arm, and admitted to her followers it had been a ‘tough week.’

It comes after pro Dianne Buswell begged fans to stop sending Shirley death threats, following her and radio DJ Dev Griffin’s controversial exit from Strictly on Sunday.

In the post, Shirley could be seen relaxing in an armchair with the drip connected to her left arm, as she admitted recent days had taken their toll.

The star appeared adamant that she would still be appearing on the Strictly judging panel this Saturday, alongside guest judge Alfonso Ribeiro.

In the caption Shirley wrote: ‘very happy to receive this drip today to help me get well. Full of all sorts of things vitamin c magnesium b12 and the list goes on.

‘Feeling under the weather today as a result of a tough week. So @revivuk will have me up and running by Saturday.’

Shirley went onto share a video of the drip after it had been attached to her arm, as she defiantly told fans she would be ‘right as rain’ by Saturday.

Vitamin Drips – what are they?

Vitamin infusion therapy, also known as intravenous vitamin therapy, is a method used to administer vitamins and minerals directly into the bloodstream.

The treatment takes 15-20 minutes and involves fluids from a small bag being administered via a drip inserted into a vein in the arm.

The treatment can be used for a range of ailments, including feeling run down, diarrhoea, severe dehydration, sunstroke or gastroenteritis.

It comes after pro Dianne has begged fans to stop sending Shirley death threats after her and partner Dev Griffin’s shock exit.

The dancer and the radio DJ were the third couple to be eliminated,  and their exit was marred in controversy after viewers claimed they couldn’t vote for them because the phone lines weren’t working.

Dianne took to Twitter on Wednesday, pleading with outrage fans to not send abuse to Shirley, who made the ultimate decision of who was going home.

One fan wrote: ‘Please sort your fans out @dbuzz6589 & @Joe_Sugg. I get why people are upset & I don’t think it was @dev_101’s time to go.

‘But sending vile abusive tweets & death threats to @ShirleyBallas is totally out of order. Imagine if it was a member of your family on the receiving end.’

Dianne replied: ‘Guys this is terrible you can not be bullying like this. It’s awful and really upsets me to hear this. It’s simply not ok and should never happen!’

It comes after the Australian beauty admitted on It Takes Two that she was ‘upset’ on Dev’s behalf, particularly because she was so ‘proud’ of his efforts in the ballroom, which placed him among the favourites.

Speaking to host Rylan Clark-Neal, she said: ‘I was in a lot of shock. I didn’t think that Dev would be in the bottom two for a while, if at all.

‘I think he did an amazing job on Saturday night… I’m really proud of him but I’m really upset that he was in the bottom two and that he ended up leaving.’

Dev appeared to have already made peace with his departure from the show as he said: ‘Every single week is so different, I don’t think you can ever take your position from the previous week for granted…

‘When I woke up that day, I didn’t think I’d be in the bottom two, but I was,’ adding that one of the things he’s ‘going to miss the most’ is rehearsing new routines.

Following the results show, Dianne broke down in tears as she believed partner Dev would reach the final.

The dancer couldn’t hold back her tears and had to be consoled by Dev as she clung on to him following the tough night.

Discussing how she believed they could get to the final, she told Dev: ‘I believed in you. 150,000,000 per cent.’

After their exit viewers immediately took to Twitter to air their outrage after Dev and Dianne’s their designated ‘phone line wouldn’t accept calls’.

Some were so furious, they even threatened to boycott the show.
