A high school student allegedly set a teacher’s hair on fire after another student set off a stinkbomb in her classroom.

The Haywood High School teacher went to monitor the back of the room when a student used a lighter to set her hair on fire, according to the Brownsville Police Department.

Haywood County Schools Superintendent Joey Hassell told the Jackson Sun: ‘The teacher went over to a group of students. When she turned away, I think the student took a lighter and it got the back of her hair.’

The teacher claimed that some of the students ‘got in her face’ and asked her why she was checking out the black kids’.

As the teacher walked away, her teacher assistant yelled that her hair was on fire, prompting the teacher to pat her hair to extinguish the flames.

She didn’t require medical attention.

School officials later found a black cigarette at the back of the classroom.

Three students were interviewed by administrators and one was charged with aggravated assault. Hassell also said the student has been expelled from the school.

Hassell told the news site that a disciplinary hearing will be held for the student within the next week.

‘We just will not tolerate that behavior,’ Hassell said.

The unidentified teacher returned to school Monday morning.
