While the helicopter landed on the school’s football field, a nurse determined she was stable enough to be taken to hospital via road ambulance instead.

The situation led to teachers discovering that a number of other students had also eaten the pot brownies.

Paramedics remained on the scene to see if any other students reacted badly after ingesting the drug.

The school said it is investigating to see who brought in the brownies and whether the student who fell ill knew that they contained marijuana, CBS reports.

‘We’re still talking to a variety of students and staff members to piece the day’s events together,’ Modesto City School District’s Becky Fortuna said.

‘I can tell you that our staff works very hard to keep students safe.

‘Our staff received training on symptoms to look for students who have been participating in any illegal activity.’

It is not yet clear how many students were involved in eating the brownies.

‘We know that it’s a number of students,’ Fortuna said.
