Succession Season 3 Episode 4: Adrien Brody debuts as key investor as battle between Roys progress

The fourth episode of HBO’s smash-hit Succession aired Sunday, introducing a new character into the fold portrayed by Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody.

Last week’s episode forwarded the ongoing tumult swirling around the Waystar Royco media conglomerate.

At the end of the episode, the company’s New York headquarters were raided by FBI agents in the wake of Kendall Roy’s (Jeremy Strong) revelation his father Logan Roy (Brian Cox) had knowledge of massive cover-ups of murders, sexual assaults and other crimes within the company’s cruise division.

Sunday’s episode opens with Kendall joined by Greg (Nicholas Braun) watching the raid on the company. Logan texts Greg to meet with him right away, but is encouraged by Kendall to attend as long as he remains loyal to him.

‘I’m a sturdy birdy,’ Greg reassures Kendall.

Kendall and Logan are seen departing to meet Aaronson on aircrafts out of New York amid heightened family tensions.

Shiv and husband Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) have a tense conversation about turning the heat up on the president, as Tom is stressed about a potential prison sentence amid the scandal.

A tentative Tom says he will follow Shiv’s orders to have the network’s anchors bash the president after some initial resistance.

Brody’s character Josh Aaronson has been described by the show as ‘a billionaire activist investor who becomes pivotal in the battle for the ownership of Waystar’ amid the family feud between Kendall and Logan.

Brody is one of a number of notable names who have joined the cast for the show’s third season. 

Also coming aboard include Alexander Skarsgard, who plays a tech CEO named Lukas Matsson, and Hope Davis as Sandi Furness, who is the daughter of Sandy Furness, the media mogul who is at odds with Logan and a major shareholder in the company.

The Emmy-winning show has continued to be a hit with critics and fans, dominating the pop culture press with its ensemble cast and scintillating storylines.

Kieran Culkin, who portrays Roman Roy on the series, hosted Saturday Night Live this week, nearly 30 years after appearing on the NBC comedy series with his brother, Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin.  

Succession continues with the fifth episode in the nine-episode season, titled Retired Janitors of Idaho, on Sunday, November 14 at 9 PM ET on HBO.
