Ryan Moffat, 29, from Edinburgh, had a romantic interaction with the latest addition to the Royal Family back in 2013
A Scottish Suits fan revealed that Meghan Markle sent him a Valentine’s message four years ago, but admitted there was no shame in losing out to Prince Harry this week.
Ryan Moffat, 29, from Edinburgh, had a romantic interaction with the latest addition to the Royal Family back in 2013.
He sent her a Valentine’s day message over Twitter saying that he was watching US drama Suits and was thrilled to be spending his evening with the actress.
Amazingly, Meghan replied to the post wishing the finance worker a ‘Happy Valentines Day’ and signing off with kisses and cuddles.
Delighted Mr Moffat returned the good wishes but decided to end contact.
But hilariously, the Hearts FC supporter tweeted Meghan on Monday telling her she had ‘missed her chance’ following news of the US actresses’ engagement to Prince Harry.
Asked about his feelings after seeing Meghan have a ring put on her finger, Mr Moffat said today: ‘It’s a bitter pill to swallow but you’ve got to take it on the chin.
‘There’s no shame in losing out to a Prince. I wish her and Harry all the best, as for me I’ll just dust myself down and hopefully find my own Princess one day.’
He did admit that he would never give up the faint hope of rekindling his albeit brief connection with the 36-year-old.
‘I was never expecting her to acknowledge me so I was buzzing when she replied.
‘You never know, if things don’t work out with Harry then maybe, but I won’t hold my breath’, he added.
Mr Moffat’s original tweet, sent in February 2013, said: ‘Looking forward to abit of Suits tonight. Valentines Day with @meghanmarkle, what more could a guy want.’
Despite being sent more in hope than expectation, the swooning message did provoke a response.
Meghan said: ‘Happy Valentine’s Day xoxo’
A delighted Mr Moffat then replied: ‘Happy Valentines Day to yourself. Xxx#mademyday’
The pair then continued on their different paths, with the actress going on to make seven series’ of the legal drama.
In 2016 she began a relationship with Harry and it was this week announced that the pair will be getting married next year.
The 29-year-old sent her a Valentine’s day message over Twitter saying that he was watching US drama Suits and was thrilled to be spending his evening with the actress
Despite Meghan clearly having moved on Mr Moffat decided to message her againupon hearing the devastating news.
He told her: ‘Heard you’re engaged now? Oh well, you had your chance hen’, with a waving emoji.
He later tweeted a friend acknowledging that it was perhaps him who had missed a chance.
‘Looking back I reckon that was the hint for me to slide on into her DMs’, he said.
The Prince of Wales announced on Monday morning that the couple were engaged after a 16-month long romance.
They will wed in May next year at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle and thereafter will live together on the grounds of Kensington Palace.
In order to marry her Prince Charming, Meghan must be baptised and confirmed in the Church Of England.
