Sunrise: David Koch, 66, has a senior moment during weekly grocery shop

Sunrise’s David ‘Kochie’ Koch might be a veteran TV star but it seems he might need a little bit of help when it comes to shopping at the supermarket and cooking at home. 

On Tuesday, during a live interview on Sunrise, stand in co-host Monique Wright teased Kochie, 66, and revealed he recently got his zucchinis and cucumbers mixed up because they look the same. 

The pair were interviewing a supermarket boss when Monique, 49, asked if the mix up was common. 

‘Do you ever find people get zucchinis and cucumbers mixed up?’ Monique asked. 

After Kochie put his hand up to admit he does, Monique went on to explain that Kochie accidentally steamed cucumbers instead of zucchinis when helping his wife Libby cook at home. 

‘When Lib asked him to steam zucchinis he steamed the cucumbers, is that common?’ she added with a laugh.

After the supermarket worker admitted it’s ‘not too common,’ Kochie said he had been left ‘hung out to dry’.  

Monique had been filling in for Kochie’s co-host Natalie Barr, 54, who had been battling Covid-19 after a trip to see her family in Perth. 

Natalie returned to the Sunrise desk on Wednesday after spending seven days in isolation.

‘Nat is back! How are you feeling?’ Koch asked her at the start of the show.

‘Good, except I’ve got a sinus infection and am a bit lightheaded. Apart from that, I’m great,’ she responded sarcastically.

‘What? You have a sinus infection as well?’ Koch asked, backing away from Nat as if to avoid catching her illness.

‘I did a telehealth [appointment] with the doctor yesterday and he said, “Don’t worry, you’re not contagious,”‘ Barr assured him.

In March last year, Barr was named as Samantha Armytage’s permanent replacement on the show, after she stepped down from her role to spend more time with family.
