‘R.I.P Moustache’: Sunrise’s Sam Mac finally shaves off his facial hair after a ‘unanimous thumbs down’ from co-stars Samantha Armytage and Natalie Barr and a public vote online
Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has been on a mission to grow a moustache for three weeks.
But after a ‘unanimous thumbs down’ from his colleagues on the Channel Seven breakfast show and a public vote on Monday, he has shaved it off.
The 38-year-old, who will celebrate his 39th birthday on Wednesday, shared news that life with facial hair came to an end in a video on Monday.

‘R.I.P Moustache,’ he captioned the heartbreaking post. ‘January 15 – January 18, 2021.’
In the clip, Sam detailed why he decided to grow whiskers on his top lip.
‘I’ve never been moustache guy. My dad is moustache guy, Sam Senior. This is three weeks,’ the weatherman said on camera to his colleagues in Sydney’s studio.
‘I’ve written a book, grown a mo. I think I’m having a mid-life crisis.
‘The only other time I had facial hair, you might remember, was the leg hair beard. When I shaved my legs and put it on my face… and the result was 92 per cent.’
Despite his best efforts at making a convincing plea to keep it, his colleagues gave him an ‘unanimous thumbs down’, before Sunrise co-host Samantha Armytage exclaimed: ‘You’re so handsome when you’re fresh-faced.’
Sam then proceeded to shave off 92 per cent of the ‘people’s moustache’ on camera, leaving eight per cent of his whiskers to the left of his face.

Since posting the clip, his followers have reacted in both hysterics and disappointment, with many posting laughing emojis and exclaiming ‘RIP’.
‘You made the right choice,’ one follower commented, before another added: ‘If possible, you just moved further up the ranks on various federal watch lists. Pardon.’
‘Inconsolable and snot crying into my pillow right now,’ a third commented, before Sam replied: ‘I understand. I’m sorry.’
