A school dropout-turned-Bitcoin millionaire has lost his $638,000 Lamborghini over a series of hooning offences after buying his model girlfriend a luxury Audi.

Benjamin Nelson, 28, boasts of having made $800,000 by trading Bitcoin despite earning less than $40,000 a year as an IT worker.

In February, the Sunshine Coast man was jailed for four years after being charged with 20 traffic offences including dangerous driving, being behind the wheel under the influence of drugs and evading police.

Police allege his ‘bitcoin wealth’ came from selling drugs, The Courier-Mail reported.

Nelson dropped out of high school in Year 10 and claimed to police he also worked as a personal trainer in addition to his IT work.

In October 2019, police caught him driving at more than 200km/h in a 110km/h zone north of Brisbane – only for him to speed off when the officers tried to pursue him.

Driving in a marked police sedan, the officers briefly caught sight of the Lamborghini when it was forced to slow down but gave up when the coupe reached 200km/h again.

His girlfriend Kaori Nakase, 24, who bought the Lamborghini Huracan in October 2019 using Nelson’s Bitcoin, reported the car as stolen to police six days later.

Police then found Nelson in a drowsy and disorientated state in November 2019 after he crashed his car at Woombye on the Sunshine Coast and fled the scene.

Nakase pleaded guilty to receiving the luxury car suspected of being the proceeds of crime, as well as perverting the course of justice.

Nelson had previously been sentenced to 18 months behind bars for importing MDMA and GBL – known colloquially as the ‘party drug’.

Road violations on his driving record date from 2010 to 2020 and include six speeding tickets and a licence suspension in January of last year alone.

In January last year, the 28-year-old gave another girlfriend – 25-year-old Instagram influencer Tori Preiss – an Audi A5 worth $75,000 while she was on her learner licence.

The luxury Lamborghini will go up for auction from June 17. The car will be sold to the highest bidder by Manheim Auctions

The Lamborghini was seized under Queensland’s strict anti-hoon laws, with police then obtaining a forfeiture order entitling all funds raised from the sale of the car to go to the government.

The car will go up for auction from June 17 through auctioneers Manheim Auctions.

‘This case should send a very strong message to would-be hoons,’ Police Minister Mark Ryan said.

‘If you are considering being reckless behind the wheel, you could have your vehicle confiscated and face severe consequences.’

Nelson will be eligible for parole in September.
