A snake wrangler has apologised to a family after a huge python slithered into their guinea pigs’ cage and ate their pets.

The well-fed two-metre carpet python was found lying inside a Sunshine Coast family’s enclosure for their beloved companions.

‘I’m really sorry about your guinea pigs, unfortunately that’s nature,’ Noosa snake catcher Luke Huntley says.

The snake catcher says despite the cage being ‘very, very snake-proof’ it only takes an inch for even the largest snakes to find their way in.

The large guinea pig cage is reinforced with thick steal, only a centimetre apart, but a larger opening on one side of the pen.

‘It goes to show how small a gap they can squeeze through. It is very hard to fully snake-proof something,’ Luke says.

‘You’ll see his jaw is a little bit flexed and under his head because that’s where he’s grabbed the guinea pigs.’

In his final act of humiliation, the snake relieves itself all over the snake catcher and the family’s carpet.

‘I just washed all of this,’ Mr Huntley says as he wipes the urine off his clothes.
