Super Bowl 2022: What You Need to Know

Every February for the past 55 years, the NFL season has culminated in the ultimate showdown between two teams. This year marks the 56th year in a row and is expected to be one of the most exciting events yet.

Whether you’re just in it for the food and halftime show, you’re an admirer of the commercials or an avid sports fan, here’s what you need to know about this time-honored tradition so you can prepare for Super Bowl Sunday.

The Rams vs. The Bengals

The Rams have been in the media frequently over the past few years following the team’s relocation from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2015. Most people don’t know that the Rams were originally an LA team, relocating to St. Louis only in 1995.

Prior to this, the Rams played in LA from 1946 to 1994. Their return to LA has done wonders for the team, bringing them to the Super Bowl in 2019 and again in 2022. The Rams’ last foray to the Super Bowl previous to relocating to LA was 2002.

The Bengals were victorious in the AFC Championship over last year’s Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

This victory secured their place in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1989. During that memorable competition, 49ers quarterback Joe Montana led the team to victory with mere seconds left in the game.

Super Bowl LVI will take place in the newly constructed SoFi Stadium in LA, which serves as home to both the Rams and the Chargers.

SoFi Stadium seats over 100,000 fans and is the most expensive stadium ever built due to construction delays and increased material costs. For the 2022 Super Bowl, the SoFi Stadium will be accepting 70,000 fans — the maximum unexpanded capacity.

The Odds

Every year, billions of dollars are bet on the Super Bowl outcomes. This incredible number includes everyone from fans who bet at home to celebrities watching the game from a skybox.

What makes this phenomenon even more interesting is the nature of some of the bets. While betting on the outcome, first touch down, and over/under are common, there are also several unconventional betting categories.

Some of the most unique bets in the Super Bowl include:

  • Coin toss: purely a game of chance, betters choose heads or tails for a 50/50 chance at winning or losing. Other variations include betting on which team will win the coin toss and whether the coin toss winner will win the Super Bowl.
  • Gatorade bath color: place your bet on which color Gatorade the winning team will shower their coach with. Orange is in favor to win for 2022.

Whether you choose a strategic approach to bet or just play along to have fun, there’s always something to wager on during the Super Bowl. For the record, the Rams are favored to win this year.

The Half-Time Show

This year’s halftime show promises to be a spectacle for lovers of 1990s and 2000s rap and hip hop.

The Pepsi-sponsored 2022 halftime show features Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. These five performers boast 43 Grammy’s between them and promise a legendary show.

When To Tune In

Watch Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, February 13th, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 pm Pacific time.

Many avid fans are aware that Super Bowl 2022 is happening a week later than usual, taking place on the second Sunday in February rather than the first. This difference is due to the 17-week play structure this season, pushing the championship to the second Sunday for the first time in almost 20 years.

Use this valuable information to prepare for an amazing Super Bowl event that promises to be a spectacle in 2022.
