MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Over the past year, the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee has awarded $5.5 million to help improve children’s health around the state.
The money from the host committee’s Legacy Fund includes $1 million from the NFL. The rest was raised through donations.
The projects include an outdoor ice rink and skate park on the northernmost edge of the state and programs for playgrounds and sustainable food on Minnesota’s Indian reservations. One grant will create a wellness hub in Minneapolis’ Somali neighborhood.
The final grant of $220,000 was awarded Thursday to Anwatin Middle School in Minneapolis. It will be used to upgrade the school’s athletic field and garden.
Dana Nelson oversees the host committee’s Legacy Fund. She says that because of these grants, kids will be moving more and eating healthier for years to come.
