Supermarket shoppers are startled by sudden change to their beloved Vegemite

Vegemite fans are furious over the brand’s new labels with many claiming the tweak to the iconic branding makes them want to leave the spread on the shelf.

The new jars have the names of meals plastered inside the red diamond on the front of the jar, where the word ‘Vegemite’ would usually be seen.

But it appears jars of ‘bolognese’, ‘nachos’, and ‘Barty Parmy’ did little to inspire some Vegemite fans who posted on Reddit with their complaints.

‘What happened to good old Vegemite?’ one person complained, adding a  photo of the shelf which shows the rebranded jars.

And people were quick to respond.

‘I saw a shelf like this and assumed they are hinting that Vegemite can be used in different recipes. Indeed my grandma, the best cook ever, used to put it in her vegetable soup,’ one person explained.

‘Then, when I needed Vegemite, there was only one of these labels available. I surprised myself by finding it off-putting; I really didn’t want to buy it,’ they added.

‘Got the pizza one. Got it home, opened it up. No pizza. Just Vegemite,’ grumbled another.

‘I feel queasy now. Not because of each label’s purpose, but seeing all of them together with the different sized lettering,’ wrote a third.

Others simply  rattled off other recipes that utelise the famous spread.

‘Good when you’re making a family meat pie as well,’ one home cook said.

‘Yeah I’ve learned from my in-laws to put it in fried rice. It also works well if you sprinkle it in any soup or sauce. I was hesitant but put a bit in a ragu, but it added that little bit of ‘something’ that you typically only get if you cook a ragu on low for hours,’ said another.

Others applauded the move.

‘Funny to see they’ve finally caught on to how people are using their product.’

‘Vegemite in Bolognese is great mate. It’s Australia’s anchovy,’ added another.

Bega told FEMAIL the labels are limited edition and there has been some amazing feedback from fans.
