‘There is light at the end of the tunnel’: Susan Boyle, 59, confirms she has received a Covid-19 vaccine

Susan Boyle had plenty to smile about on Monday as she received her Covid-19 vaccine and said there is ‘light at the end of the tunnel’.

The Britain’s Got Talent star, 59, was seen sporting a face mask at home after she visited the West Lothian vaccine centre for her jab.

Susan, who turns 60 next month, shared her appreciation for the NHS on Friday as she confirmed the vaccine has made her feel positive

She said to The Sun: ‘Monday felt for the first time like there is light at the end of the tunnel.

‘There is so much disinformation surrounding the vaccine but I encourage you to go out and get the vaccine when it’s available to you.

‘I am grateful for science and grateful for medicine and especially grateful to the wonderful NHS nurses and doctors, thank you.’

Ministers have pledged to dish out vaccines to all 32million in the top nine priority groups — which include unpaid carers — by the end April.

NHS England figures show 93.6 per cent of all over-65s had received their first dose by February 28 — the most recent day local inoculation data is available for.

Around 8 per cent of neighbourhoods in England — or 543 — have jabbed more than 95 per cent of the cohort, as the nation continues to plough on with its mammoth inoculation drive.

Data published yesterday by NHS England shows that just 73 per cent of staff in care homes for older adults have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Uptake is much higher among doctors and nurses, with 93 per cent of frontline staff now immunised

However, as many as 200,000 NHS and care employees have refused the offer of a jab so far, despite working in close proximity to the vulnerable.

Susan resides in the small Scottish town of Blackburn in West Lothian, where she received her Covid vaccination.

She rose to worldwide prominence in 2009 after finishing second on the talent competition, Britain’s Got Talent.

Despite earning millions since finishing runner-up on BGT, Susan has continued to reside in her humble home in Scotland.

In 2019, the singing superstar admitted that she felt like an ‘act in a freak show’ during her first audition on the show.

Susan said she felt ‘suffocated’ when she took to the stage as people were ‘laughing at her crazy hair’ and dress sense.

She told the Irish Mirror: ‘It felt quite suffocating, almost as though I was an act in a freak show, and that hurt. It was incredibly difficult to come to terms with for a time, but the positives have far outweighed the negatives.’

‘Everyone was laughing at me; they wondered who this daft woman with the crazy hair was… and I had made a bad choice in clothes, so no-one had high expectations.’
