Jose Mourinho was left fuming in the stands after watching his Roma side come unhinged in Sunday’s 3-1 home defeat against AC Milan.

The Portuguese was banned from the touchline for disciplinary reasons and was left seething as Roma capitulated in one of the biggest games of the season.

Stefano Pioli’s side scored three goals at the San Siro to keep up pressure on second-place Juventus while Roma remain ninth in the Serie A standings.

Theo Hernandez’ goal was the pick of the bunch after the Milan defender scored his side’s third of the evening with a stunning effort following a beautiful passage of play.

The 26-year-old was played into space just inside Roma’s box after being found with a delightful backheel from team-mate and former Arsenal and Chelsea striker, Olivier Giroud.

Hernandez then made no mistake as he smashed his shot past the helpless Roma goalkeeper to seal three points for the weekend hosts.

Yacine Adli and Giroud scored Milan’s other goals, while Roma’s solitary strike came from the penalty spot as Leandro Paredes converted from 12-yards.

Milan broke the deadlock after 11 minutes when Adli received the ball just outside the box, sidestepped his marker, and placed it into the bottom corner.

Giroud doubled the lead for the hosts after 56 minutes when a cross into the box found Simon Kjaer, who nodded the ball across for the Frenchman to head it in from point-blank range.

Roma overcame a first-half struggle and improved after the break, as Leandro Paredes converted a 69th-minute penalty following Davide Calabria’s trip on Lorenzo Pellegrini, but Milan secured the win with Hernandez’s goal six minutes from time.

Milan are third in the standings with 42 points, nine behind leaders Inter Milan, and four behind second-placed Juventus, who host Sassuolo on Tuesday. Roma are ninth with 29 points.
