Earlier speculation that a faulty heater found left on by emergency services may have caused their death has now been ruled out, The Daily Telegraph reported.

On Wednesday this week, a neighbour noticed the couple weren’t home when a ball went over their fence.

They said their mother called out to Mr Rasic to throw the ball back over – as he normally would – but this time they didn’t get a response.

‘Then my father noticed that his neighbour hadn’t taken the bins out Thursday night. We had thought they’d gone away,’ the boy said.

The Croatian couple had been living in the home for at least 31 years, and have a daughter who lives in Queensland.

A crime scene has been established, while detectives and forensic teams were seen going in and out of the Dora Street home on Saturday.

There is a possibility the couple may have been dead for a number of days.
