Sydney dad charged with manslaughter over baby son’s death

Ten-week-old baby boy dies of brain injury at home as his dad is charged with manslaughter

A father has been charged with manslaughter after his baby son died of a brain injury at his home.

Police found the 10-week-old child unresponsive when they were called to the house in Bidwell, western Sydney, about 10.15pm on Friday.

They started CPR until paramedics arrived and rushed him to Mount Druitt Hospital then Westmead Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

However, the baby boy died in hospital the next day and a post mortem examination found the he died from a significant brain injury.

The 24-year-old man, who can’t be identified for legal reasons, was arrested at the local police station about 11pm on Monday and charged on the spot.

The man has another child, a daughter, with the deceased boy’s mother, who also can’t be identified for legal reasons.

He was to face Mount Druitt Local Court on Tuesday but was too distraught to leave his cell and did not apply for bail.

The man will stay behind bars over Christmas and appear in court in February.
