A fed up woman is considering dumping her ‘lazy’ boyfriend because he’s doing nothing but watch Netflix all day after losing his job due to Covid-19.

Katie, from Sydney, said she has been paying their rent, food and electricity since becoming the breadwinner after her boyfriend stopped working five weeks ago.

But now she feels better off without him because she’s over having to cook for two and clean up after his mess every day when she comes home from work while he watches TV until the early hours of the morning.

‘I feel really bad but I’ve been dating a really nice guy for about a year. We moved in together probably about six months ago,’ she told Kyle and Jackie O on KIISFM.

‘But what I’m concerned about is that it has been over a month now since he lost his job. He is not motivated at all to look for a job, he’s not even trying. He’s just lazing around the house and it’s really putting me off.’

Katie said she no longer feels attracted to him after his ‘energy changed’.

‘We used to get along so well. We used to do a lot of things together, nice stuff, and now I’m the breadwinner, it’s so unfair. It’s all my money and all my work just going in to keeping him,’ she said.

‘Sex has slowed down. We very rarely have sex. We used to be very active… But now the past five weeks since he’s off work, we’ve probably had sex twice.’

Katie said she understands her boyfriend is going through a tough time after losing his job but she feels resentful of having to take up every task at home.

‘I’d get home from work and he’s just sitting in his pyjamas on the couch, watching some Netflix. He doesn’t even do dinner, he doesn’t clean up – it’s just nothing now,’ she explained.

‘I get that he’s shattered but he doesn’t seem to be showing it because he’s enjoying Netflix into the wee hours of the morning and then coming to bed. He’s like a kept man, and I’m going out doing everything.’

Not only is she supporting him, she’s also ‘picking up his slack’ by paying off his personal loan.

‘I am doing a lot of things for him… but it’s now at a point where I think gosh it would be so much easier to be by myself, seriously,’ Katie said.

‘I know he’s still in love with me. But pick yourself up buddy.’

Jackie O said while she understood her frustration, she suggested Katie should just ‘stick it out’ until Covid ends.

‘How long do you do it for? I’m really hoping that maybe after covid, I’d get that spark back and he’d get his motivation back and get a job,’ Katie said.

‘But god, if it keeps on going, it will absolutely kill me. Even being at home on weekends during lockdown, it’s like we are not together anymore. He’s seeing Netflix and I’m cleaning up after him.

‘The breakdown has started… I feel like I’m kicking him when he’s down, I guess I’m a strong person but come on.’
